A wave table is a machine used to recover tiny particles of gold from dirt -- and that's what my new site is about. Gold wave tables. Hardly anyone has heard of them, except folks in the gold mining industry.
My challenge was to get this new site into Google for its main keyword phrases, the most obvious one being "gold wave table".
After I created the site and linked to it, I waited for a bit then wanted to see if it appeared in the search results.
Well, when I did a Google search for "wave table" (without the quotes around it), I got a staggering 6,370,000 results. That's right, the Google database has catalogued over SIX MILLION different web pages about wave tables.
Or so it seems at first.
Actually, MOST of those pages have nothing to do with the Micron Mill Wave Table that my site at GoldWaveTable.com is about. Not even remotely close. There's a wavetable that is an audio product. There are furniture tables. There is even a massage table, and tons of other stuff in that 6 million webpages.
Have you ever been frustrated by finding TOO MANY IRRELEVANT results when you use the search engines?
Me too. You scan through the first few pages of results and then you give up. But I was looking for *my* latest site so I didnt give up.
But here's good news. You can shortcut your way to exactly finding what you were looking for. Let me show you...
HOW TO FIND OUR KIND OF WAVE TABLES IN GOOGLE:
(or WHATEVER it is you are searching for. Note: this method should work similarly in most other search engines, though I confess I haven't tested it elsewhere).
1) FIRST of all, put the term you want inside double quote marks. Like this:
"wave tables"
This will eliminate all the pages that have the words wave and tables separated. Such as a page that says "the waiter gave him a nod and a wave then continued to clear the tables".
2) The SECOND trick to speed up your search is to eliminate the irrelevant sites from the search engine results pages by USING A MINUS SIGN to remove all the pages with those unwanted words on them.
Let's add some minus sign terms. Like this:
-music
Well, I kept on doing the "minus word" trick until I found the exact thing I was looking for. But that took too long. It was then that I realized...
THERE IS A FASTER WAY:
In your search, add in some context words... words that you might expect to find in the discussion of your topic. In our case, these gold wave tables are used in the mining industry. They are used to recover trace quantities of minerals.
So my search would have been much faster if I had used the "double quotes" method plus added the single word mining (or minerals, or both). Like this:
"wave table" mining
That search takes us directly to pages about wave tables that also include the word mining.
BINGO. Hole in one.
If you do that search, you'll see that our site is listed at the top of the results. As the webmaster at http://GoldWaveTable.com I did a little happy dance about that, let me tell you!
